Artist SS87 Natural Electric Guitar w/ Floyd Rose
The Artist SS87 is a premium-grade prog-monster, for the player looking for the ultimate shredders tool! With various high-spec features this guitar packs a serious amount of quality into its small price-tag.
The Basswood body has an open-pore matte finish, a carved arm-contour and super-high neck access. The carved ergonomic Maple neck is comfortable, fast and smooth in the hand, and features 24 Jumbo frets over a 25.5” scale length on an Eco-Rosewood fretboard. This classy, modern styling is tied together with Shark-Tooth inlays and premium gold hardware, and a very versatile H/S/H pickup configuration.
Our covered Matte Bullbuckers are in both the bridge and neck positions, and with the added flexibility of our Wrangler middle pickup and a 5-way switch you have the choice of any tone you could wish for at your fingertips. The switch and simple volume and tone controls are strategically placed for easy adjustability whilst playing, so you can switch from soaring leads back to a thumping rhythm tone in a flash.
The SS87 also features a genuine Floyd-Rose Tremolo system, so you can divebomb and scream away on those high-gain whammy bends all day; the gold-plated locking nut will ensure you’re always in tune! UPDATE: on previous review
After six months of using it the locking nut on the floyd rose had a screw hole failure. This makes the trem system unusable and replacement is not easy. The issue is the metal used in the nut is very soft, and this will likely happen on all of these guitars in a fairly short time. I would say this is not a one off - that component is a little too cheap and constitutes a design failure rather than my individual experience Artist support was good but said a replacement part would take a couple months to be sent out, and notably didn’t offer a replacement guitar or refund It’s a shame because this guitar is fantastic in all other aspects, but in this case I would recommend looking at spending a little more with another manufacturer.

Very good Ibanez-like guitar
It great. Sounds excellent, easy to play, stays in tune and balances well. It looks better in person than in the pictures. The pickups are well matched…the middle pickup on its own is a bit wild, but in 2 and four there’s some really nice sounds. On the less good side the Floyd Rose was not close to being balanced out of the box, and setting it up was a pain - but since then it’s been pretty solid. If you’re looking for an Ibanez style shred guitar, this is a worthwhile option
