Artist AT53 Vintage Green Electric Guitar w/ Hand Made Pickups

What you've been waiting for is here! For those of you who prefer your guitars to look a little less battle-worn, we're introducing the AT53 in a non-aged nitrocellulose finish!

The latest in our much-lauded range of TC-style guitars, the Artist AT53 pairs the best elements of vintage guitar design with modern features to bring you an instrument that straddles the line between innately familiar and excitingly new. With a classic-looking roasted maple neck finished with a comfortable satin feel, the high-grade locking tuners and rosewood fretboard (at a lightning-quick 14-inch radius), make for a guitar that belies its own old-world aesthetic. With its stunning nitrocellulose finish, a material used mainly on guitars crafted prior to the 1970s, the AT53 sustains amazingly for such a lightweight instrument!

Having tested untold amounts of pickup options, we settled on a set of high-end, hand-made single coils wound by the Laohao workshop, a small team producing boutique batches of custom pickups to a frankly unbelievable standard. Paired with 250k pots, the AT53 has that signature single-coil twang we all know and love! Every detail has been pored over with this one - a bone nut, copper foil shielding, a wheeled string tree and locking strap buttons are among a host of features that make this your perfect modern instrument!

Done it again!

This "stunner", my fourth Artist Guitar, arrived this morning which is simply outstanding customer service. The same delivery service I have experienced every time with Artist Guitars, just unbelievable but I digress. Where to begin? The neck, wow the neck, I just love it, great shape, perfectly finished as are the stainless frets, an absolute joy to play straight from the box. And the hand wound Alnico 5 pickups seem just spot-on. Playing it without the amp is stunning too, it is surprisingly loud, by far the most resonant in my collection so thumbs up to Paulownia trees and the perfectly installed hardware. The locking tuners are definitely of a higher quality over the standard Artist Guitars issue, personally I am pretty indifferent about locking machine heads and would rather just go for really good quality vintage jobbies but I have no plans to change anything (yet). The overall finish is immaculate, hate the pickguard colour but I knew that before I bought it so that doesn't count for anything and as I am not gigging the neck slump isn't an issue either, I am just enjoying how light the whole guitar feels and how easy it is to play. Kinda important that. Overall I can only say "Artist Guitars, you've done it again" I'll be back.

First guitar

This has been the guitar I am learning on and so far it’s been so lovely. My guitar teacher recommended this brand and it’s turned out to be so solid. I love this guitar so much and I’m so happy I went with this, there’s lots of way more expensive ones in stores but I honestly just love the lightness of this one and the colour. I was so happy with fast delivery and overall I’d def buy with Artist brand again. Thank you for your hard work guys

This is a reliable, functional, high quality instrument suitable for gigging, backup, professional use or as affordable high quality student instrument. Can't really fault this guitar even for twice the price but I'll try!! Its good to see smaller firms and Chinese producers listening to their customers and upping the ante where it makes the biggest difference. They are beginning to rival western and other eastern manufacturers now in quality control, consistency, attention to detail and precision of installation along with sourcing higher quality hardware and components. Probably saved some money in other areas like neck binding, skunk strip inlay, affordable woods etc. Everything functioned perfectly out of the box. Quite well set up. I did tweak intonation. There was one single fret a little high needed a tap with a mallet. I have had a few artist guitars and while they represent excellent value I could never say they were faultless. Usual problems are mediocre tuners, variable setup, stability of build, fretwork and quality control. Some affordable guitar brands like to boast extra features like locking tuners etc as a selling point. However much better to have quality standard tuners than a budget locking variety. With this guitar I was happy to say the tuners, while not perfect, are definitely an upgrade over the ones used on other Artist guitars, though I would still rather have a quality brand of standard tuners. They hold tune well but I can feel the gears inside are not 100% smooth under load. The neck is flawless and stainless fretwork awesome with one minor issue mentioned before. Nice and resonant unplugged. Stainless frets huge upgrade if you play a lot. Extra money worth it just for this. Fit and Finish is top notch. Easily as good or better than high end Squier or affordable fender. Paintwork is flawless. The neck has a heavy clear poly finish which I don't mind. Abalone/Paua shell inlays are nice. Attractive 3 ply scratch plate installed with precision. The components and hardware while not of top end quality are solid, functional and installed with precision. No loose or poorly installed screws or hardware. Electronic controls are affordable but installed well and function smoothly. Pickups are well balanced and transparent. Quite hot. Body is quite light. This could be good or bad. Easy on back. Not really neck "dive" as such, more of a slow slump. Remedied by lighter tuners, wide strap or counter weights in cavity. Extras which make a difference, shielded cavities, bone nut, roller string trees and (subjectively) the strap locks though I don't mind standard oversized buttons. Minor gripes. Tuners as mentioned not really any worse than other guitars in this price bracket but if you want one thing to be perfect this is a good place to start. Side dot inlays are not super visible. Apparently they are glow in the dark but they just look dark to me. Future improvements for me could be body contours, more colour varieties, different neck and pickup configurations and hardware upgrades on higher end models. As always Artist provides excellent customer service and warranty support. That is really the jewel in their crown and how they continue to grow as a company. Thanks for the guitar.
